It was named after a continuous stream of data, flowing from many entry points down to the eventual end similar to that of a river. The VIR in RIVIR emphasizes the fact that this can all be done virtually.
RIVIR provides a central repository to manage and share content eliminating the need for duplicate systems and the potential errors that result from manual data entry. RIVIR enables product content to be populated once and used in many places creating efficiencies and time savings. RIVIR is also a virtual collaboration tool connecting teams and partners across geographical distances. Ultimately, saving time and reducing costs.
GS1 standards are the most widely used system of standards in the world ensuring that organizations are creating and maintaining information in a unified way to support global supply chain needs.
RIVIR is a Certified GS1 data pool and can replace or work in tandem with another service. Content included in RIVIR can be syndicated across the GDSN by turning on those services with a separate agreement. RIVIR is a product information management tool and provides content sharing capabilities as well as access to content services.
Version history is maintained and tracked within RIVIR
Each organization’s systems and needs are different, and RIVIR was created with this in mind. Data may be retrieved via automated API requests, manual extraction though the user interface, or reoccurring exports custom built and scheduled by RIVIR users.
Great question! Even though The Data Council has joined the SPINS family, we’re still in the process of fully integrating. For the time being, we’re continuing to operate separately, and your membership remains important. We’ll keep you in the loop with any updates or changes along the way!
It’s likely that we’ll offer this integration in the future, but we’re still working out the details. We’ll keep you updated as we finalize the plans!
